Geographic Information Systems Officer

To provide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) support and to carry out the maintenance and update of corporate spatial and non-spatial data sets.
Additional Information
Salary: from $44,019.00 AUD up to $47,675.00 AUD per year
Position Type: Full Time, Fixed Term for up to 12 months
Job Closing Date: May 30, 2008
Duties:

· Monitor and update the change in forest areas on private property using Private Forests Tasmania’s customised GIS system.

· Maintenance and update of the private timber reserves GIS data set.

· Maintenance and update of the private timber reserves non-spatial database.

· Creation of cartographic map products using Arcview and customised GIS interface.

· Assist in the maintenance, update and distribution of remote sensed imagery.

· Management of data in the form of folders and files in a network environment.

Selection Criteria:

1. Proven skills and experience in the use of various Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Access

2. Demonstrated skills and experience in PC maintenance including Windows XP Pro installation in a networked environment, administering network resources including mail accounts, user’s network profiles and network security issues.

3. Proven skills and experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) software including creating GIS computerised maps.

4. Satisfactory experience in the use of ER Mapper or similar software and Image Web Server or similar software.

5. Demonstrated communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to work effectively within a team and to produce written documents, which are clear, concise and understandable to non-specialists.
